Bradley Tech's Aquaponics Lab

Bradley Tech's Aquaponics Lab

An aquaponics system produces fast growing and incredibly succulent fruits and vegetables while also providing fish with another food source. Aquaponics is a sustainable, fun, and simple way to produce excellent, healthy, high quality food for your friends and family.

This works because the fish waste provides a valuable nutrient source for the plants, and in turn the plants filter the water for the fish. Plant waste (parts that are usually discarded) can then be composted in a worm farm, or used directly by providing food for the fish.

Aquaponics was reportedly used by ancient civilizations such as the Aztecs, and is now being used in modern cities everywhere.

Aquaponics is completely organic because the fish produce natural fertilizer used by the plants - and that means no man-made chemicals!

Most aquaponics labs use tilapia because they are easy to maintain and they grow quickly.

The vegetables grown in an aquaponics lab are typically marketed to local communities, so products can be harvested right before use rather than being transported across the countryside.
